Protect the Right to Peaceful Protest

The right to peaceful protest is a cornerstone of any free society. But recent legislation has introduced sweeping new powers that could be used to prevent people from demonstrating peacefully.

New laws allow the police to restrict protests based on the level of noise they create, and introduce serious criminal penalties for actions that were previously treated as minor offences. These powers are vague, open to abuse, and risk silencing legitimate dissent.
